Serious mental illness like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder affects about 1 in 100 individuals. To improve the lives of patients and families who are affected by these illnesses, a better understanding of their causes is needed. The Center for Cognitive Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago is conducting a research study sponsored by the National Institute of Health to learn about the biological and behavioral traits associated with these illnesses. Affected individuals and their 1st degree family members (brother, sister, parent or child) are invited to participate in this important research study. All procedures are noninvasive and monetary compensation is provided. There is no cost to participate.
