Healing the Hood event in Little Village

           Healing the Hood event on Saturday, June 14th from Noon to 5 PM on the intersection of 28th and Lawndale in Little Village.  This free community event is part of LVCDC’s larger effort to promote peace and build community in the Little Village neighborhood.  This event takes place on the gang boundaries that pit individuals and groups from one side of the neighborhood against the other.
            Healing the Hood is an afternoon of activities for people of all ages to learn, share and have fun as they discover community resources to help them become part of the solution to violence in our community.  This year’s schedule will include local entertainers, an anti-violence poetry slam/spoken word contest, and a 3-on-3 B-Ball Tournament.  For this event, LVCDC closes 28th Street to traffic and transforms it into an outdoor celebration with musicians, dancers, poets, and actors performing all afternoon.
            The event also includes community organizations and companies with booths displaying information on their services and products.  These booths will fill 28th Street with exhibits, tents, games, art, workshops, and activities for families.

Evento en La Villita: “Healing the Hood”

           El evento “Healing the Hood”, el sábado, 14 de junio, del mediodía a las 5 p.m., en la intersección de la calle 28 y Lawndale, en La Villita. Este evento comunitario greatuito es parte de un gran esfuerzo de LVCDC para promover la paz y mejorar la comunidad en el barrio de La Villita. Este evento tiene lugar en los límites pandilleriles que ponen a individuos y grupos de un lado del barrio contra los del otro lado. “Healing the Hood” es una tarde de actividades para que la gente de todas las edades, aprendan, compartan y se diviertan mientras descubren recursos comunitarios para ayudarlos a ser parte de la solución a la violencia en nuestra comunidad. El programa de este año incluirá artistas locales, una sección de poesía anti-violencia/concurso de la palabra hablada y un Torneo de Pelota 3-sobre 3. Para este evento, LVCDC cierra al tráfico la Calle 28 y la transforma en una celebración al aire libre, con músicos, bailarines, poetas y actores presentándose toda la tarde. El evento incluye también organizaciones comunitarias y compañías con puestos de información sobre sus servicios y productos. Estos puestos llenarán la Calle 28 con exhibiciones, tiendas, juegos, artes, talleres y actividades para toda la familia.
