Born in Mexico City, Cicero resident Dafne Villaseñor was named Cicero’s new queen of the Senorita Cicero Mexican Independence Day Pageant, an event hosted by the Cicero Mexican Cultural Committee.

A graduate from Morton East High School, Villaseñor, 21, is majoring in Business Finance and Marketing at Morton College and currently for the El Milagro Company where she does account payables and daily administrative duties.

“It is an honor to win Senorita Cicero Mexican Independence Day Pageant,” says Villaseñor. “With this wonderful opportunity I intend to give immigrants, who are like me, hope that their dreams can come true, too.”

A self-proclaimed dreamer, Villaseñor intends to graduate and continue her education at the University of Illinois at Chicago to earn her bachelor’s in business and someday be a part of a top executive in a fortune 500 corporation and eventually own her own business.

“I am an example that anything is possible. If you have a dream, work hard, and pursue it,” says Villaseñor. Through her own experiences, Villaseñor a living testament that anything is possible. She hopes to give many immigrants across Cicero that their time will come when they can no longer live in fear of deportation. Her platform as New Senorita Cicero will be addressing many issues, such as bullying and domestic violence. Villaseñor will partner with several non-profit organizations to raise awareness of these issues that affect many residents in her community. “I want to bring more awareness to these important issues as it affects many,” says Villaseñor. “In the next year, I really look forward to building relationships. As a Mexican woman, I am proud of where I came from and I bring the love and compassion I have more culture in everything I do.”

Cicero will celebrate Mexican Independence Day, El Grito, and Fiestas Patrias beginning this Friday at Community Park. Visit the Town of Cicero’s Facebook page for more details.
