Excelencia School of Chicago Seeks Assistance from Parents

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Education Excelencia School of Chicago invites Humboldt Park parents and guardians of children in grades K-5 to attend a planning meeting to develop an outstanding charter school for children of Humboldt Park. Excelencia is a comprehensive community charter school for families of students in kindergarten through fifth grade, and is exploring the possibility of including a preschool program as well. Their goal is to build fluency in Spanish and English, and to cultivate the talents of every child in a school that reflects the needs of the community we serve, and hopes to open its first campus in August of 2012 with students in grades K-2. At Excelencia’s last planning meeting, Executive Director Tim Grivois-Shah, Community Outreach Director Deepti Pareenja, and community members Enrique Salgado, Jacqueline Reyes, and Theresa Sanchez met to discuss priorities for education in Humboldt Park. High on the list was developing an outstanding dual-language curriculum, welcoming and expecting high levels of parent involvement, and working with community partner agencies to provide non-stop services to children throughout Excelencia’s proposed year-round, 200 instructional day calendar. The planning meeting is for any parent or guardian of elementary school children in Humboldt Park interested in developing an outstanding dual-language school for children in your community. The meeting will take place at the Humboldt Park Public Library, 1605 North Troy Street, on Saturday, May 14th from 10am-2pm. Contact Tim Grivois-Shah at grivoist@excelenciaschool.org or 708.257.9660 to RSVP or for more information.
