PNC Bank, a member of the PNC Financial Services Group, Inc., announced a new mobile banking feature that allows customers to conveniently deposit checks using an iPhone®, iPod Touch® or iPad 2®. PNC’s mobile deposit, which can be used by any customer with access to PNC Online Banking and an eligible deposit account, allows customers to make deposits anywhere at any time. The simple three-step process takes about 90 seconds. The customer first selects the deposit account and the amount, photographs the front of the check and then the back. Mobile deposits made before 8:00 p.m. are typically available the next business day. For more information, visit www.pnc.com.
Q: Is PNC’s mobile deposit feature available on other mobile devices (e.g. Android phones)?
A: PNC mobile deposit is only available on the PNC mobile iPhone app and the PNC Virtual Wallet mobile iPhone app. We are evaluating additional devices and operating systems at this time.
Q. When are the deposited funds available?
A. Standard PNC funds availability policy applies for mobile deposits. $100 available for items that post overnight (not available for immediate withdrawal), with full balance available next day.
Q. How do you protect against duplicate deposits and other types of fraud?
A. Users are instructed to properly endorse and print “For PNC Mobile Deposit Only” on each deposited check. Imaging software will reject checks without proper endorsements and will detect any attempts at duplicate deposits as well. In addition, users are provided with recommended check retention and storage practices to further prevent attempted or inadvertent duplicate deposits. No images or account information is stored on the phone.
