Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - EducationWith the strike by the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) now official, more than 400,000 students are out of their classrooms just as their school year is beginning. Especially in light of the violence affecting so many of our communities, it is no time for youth to be out on the streets.
BUILD has prepared for this CTU strike by opening its doors and providing youth ages 10-17 with a safe community-based setting to provide academic assistance, recreational activities, mentoring, and opportunities to develop leadership skills at BUILD’s new headquarters in the Austin Community, from 9a.m., to 4p.m., through the duration of the strike.

BUILD staff will engage youth in a variety of planned activities in our new facility, BUILD now has the space to accommodate youth who are enrolled in our programs as well as others who would like to drop in our 10,000 square foot, ADA accessible building, sitting on 2.3 acres of open land in the heart of Chicago’s Austin Community. Please call BUILD at 773-227-2880 or visit us at 5100 W. Harrison.
