Casa Central Recognizes October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local NewsDomestic violence is a serious issue that impacts millions of people each year. In the United States alone, more than 10 million children are exposed to violence in their homes each year, 60 percent of teens say they have a friend who has experienced abuse in a dating relationship, and an estimated three women and one man lose their lives each day as a result of domestic violence.

Please join Casa Central in acknowledging Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Agency staff, participants and volunteers tied in front of the agency’s main building (1343 North California Avenue), thousands of purple ribbons to the fences to remember and honor those who have lost their lives. In addition to the ribbon-tying, Casa Central is offering an “In Her Shoes” training experience, and participating in a march/rally that will come right past Casa Central (from Clemente High School, west on Division, north on California, ending at the 14th District Police Station), October 26, 2012 from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available. Please call the Domestic Violence Help Line at 1-877-TO-END-DV (1-877-863-6338) or the Casa Central Domestic Violence Intervention Program at (773) 645-2376. To learn more, visit www.casacentral.org.
