Reproductive Justice Issues Facing Young Latinas

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local NewsMujeres Latinas en Acción hosted a panel discussion August 8th on the reproductive justice issues facing young Latinas in honor of Latina Week of Action for Reproductive Justice, with a special emphasis on the Affordable Care Act and Parental Notice of Abortion Act. The discussion was geared towards community organizations working with youth to give vital information about these issues at the forefront of health care and reproductive rights.

The Latina Week of Action for Reproductive Justice is a week focused on taking action, to highlight issues important to the Latino community, and to make Latina voices heard. The Parental Notice of Abortion Act will go into effect on August 15th and the Affordable Care Act will start 2014, with registration beginning this October. Among the panelists were Aida Giachello, member of Expert Panel at U.S. Department of Public Health and Human Services and Professor at Northwestern University; Richard Muniz, Reproductive Rights Project Fellow at the ACLU of Illinois, and Ana Soto, Leadership Advocate at Mujeres Latinas en Acción.
