April is National Volunteer Month, and the city’s leading volunteer organization, Chicago Cares, is launching a new Community Investment Strategy (CIS) to make a deeper impact on high-need communities, and furthering its mission to mobilize volunteers to build a stronger, more unified Chicago. The CIS dovetails with the organization’s 30-day “Do More Good Challenge” and establishes a grassroots foundation in key communities for its annual Serve-a-thon on June 24, 2017. The CIS will allow Chicago Cares to invest in the workforce, institutions and programs of high-need communities on Chicago’s south and west sides, including Auburn Gresham and Englewood. The non-profit will be testing, adapting and evaluating new programs throughout the process. Throughout April, Chicago Cares is providing 30 days of volunteering opportunities through its “Do More Good Challenge.” Chicagoans are encouraged to share how they give back with the hashtag #DoMoreGood to spotlight day-to-day acts of service that make the city a better place. Chicago Cares is best known for its annual Serve-a-thon, a one-day service event that brings together thousands of volunteers to clean up schools and parks across the city. Registration opens on April 3rd through the organization’s website www.ChicagoCares.org for the June 24th event.
