Sinai Chicago Receives Grant for Safe Sleep Program

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Health

For the second year, Sinai Community Institute (SCI) was awarded a $150,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Public Health to expand access to training and education on safe sleep practices for infants. This campaign focuses on outreach and education to expand community-based promotion of safe sleep practices, promote resources to improve safe sleep environments, identify sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) disparities, and address opportunities for improvement in safe sleep education and outreach. With the help of lead community partners Chicago Birthworks Collective, Telpochcalli Community Education Project (TCEP), Gifts from Liam, and Catholic Charities, this effort will promote safe sleep by distributing educational materials, hosting safe sleep trainings and community events, and promoting the #ClearTheCrib National Campaign and hosting #ClearTheCrib Challenge events. Last year, SCI and partners were able to distribute nearly 83,000 safe sleep educational materials, host 121 safe sleep events, and distribute 57 cribs to families in need.
