June is Gun Violence Awareness Month and gun violence tends to spike in Chicago during the summer months. The Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) views gun violence as a public health crisis, and this year, CDPH is reinforcing its prevention efforts through a coordinated campaign that includes citywide Gun Safety Awareness Workshops and distribution of free gun locks. These workshops include education on the impact of gun violence, “Stop the Bleed” training, and guidance on anonymously turning in unwanted firearms. Gun locks will be given at all workshops, and are also available year-round at no cost at public health vending machines, as well as in CDPH clinics, Chicago Public Library locations, and select CPD district stations. The schedule includes:
• June 26, 2025, 6:00-7:30 pm, 4300 W North Ave, Chicago, IL 60639
• July 31, 2025, 6:00-7:30 pm, 2311 S Kedzie Ave, Chicago, IL 60623
