At the intersection of environmental access, equity and youth development, Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance (GPCA) is empowering the next generation with the knowledge, confidence and leadership skills needed to drive lasting change. Rooted in the vibrant and historic Garfield Park community, GPCA’s nature-based programs empower children and teens from all backgrounds through hands-on, immersive programming that ignites curiosity and fosters deep connections to the natural world. These programs do more than teach about plants—they inspire purpose, build resilience and spark lifelong environmental and community stewardship.  Designed with input from the Community Advisory Board and Youth Advisory Council, GPCA’s programs are built on a foundation of inclusion and accessibility. High school students in the Urban Roots Teen Environmental Justice Program explore environmental issues through the lens of equity and advocacy. Kids of all ages can visit the interactive Budding Botanists station on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and discover foundational environmental concepts through joyful exploration, games and storytelling, laying the groundwork for lifelong curiosity and care for nature.
