In Nigeria, the Ojude Oba Festival was held in the southwest region of the country. Tens of thousands of people came out in their finest and brightest clothes as a symbolic event of tradition. Drummers, musicians and dancers came out to pay homage to the Awugale—the traditional ruler of the people in the area. Centuries ago, the people paid homage to the local ruler as thanks for his allowing religious freedom for the people. In recent decades, this festival has become known for pride, unity and identity for the local people of the region. The name Ojude Oba is a Yoruba word which means “the king’s forecourt.”
Both Paraguay and the Republic of Korea (South Korea) have signed a number of agreements for increased cultural and economic exchanges. This deepening cooperation between the two countries is being made on the 60th anniversary of the first Korean immigrants settling in Paraguay. Over six decades ago, Paraguay became a place of immigration for Koreans seeking a better life outside of South Korea. One of the things the Paraguayan government will do is to introduce the Korean language into the public school curriculum. in the hope of making Korean the country’s second official foreign language. The Korean-Paraguayan community has 26,000 people, and they play an important role in Paraguay’s convenience store, restaurant, and tech store sectors. The interests of the Paraguayan-Korean community is represented by the Paraguayan-Korean Education Center. Both Paraguay and South Korea have signed deals to further increase South Korean investments in Paraguay.
And finally, The Frankfurt International Book Fair will be held in Frankfurt, Germany, from October 15th to 19th. Last year, the Frankfurt International Book Fair attracted 230,000 people, and 153 countries were represented at the book fair. The Frankfurt International Book Fair is the largest and considered the most prestigious in the world. The book fair has its origins in the 15th Century, and this year’s upcoming Frankfurt International Book Fair is on track of being larger than in 2024.
One of the major problems I have with how news is presented in the United States today is that if they are not screaming headlines of stories of conflict, war, natural disasters in certain parts of the world, then it is not newsworthy of being news. I am getting thoroughly sick and tired about American news being nothing more than about Donald Trump, the Russia-Ukraine War, the now ongoing Israel-Iran War, or some truly sad human tragedy. I am not saying none of this is important, but to just concentrate on all of this while totally ignoring what else is going on in the world and anything positive is doing a horrible injustice to what else is out there. One of the reasons I used to like listening to BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) Radio was that it brought news from all over the world in a way and on a scale that the U.S. news media could not. It also brought more analysis which U.S. news almost never did. Even though U.S. new media has gotten better at analysis, it still provides a very, very limited view of the news. By providing what I have here, I hope I have provided more perspective of what the news is. By providing some positive news, I hope I have brighten up some people’s day.
