ComEd and Revolution Workshop celebrated 18 local job seekers graduating from the Power Up Academy, a job training program designed to remove barriers to entry-level technical roles that lead to engineering career paths. In partnership with Revolution Workshop and a coalition of local engineering firms, ComEd launched the Power Up Academy in 2023 to build a more diverse and local talent pipeline needed to power the clean energy transition in Illinois and to support the growing demand for engineers in the company who oversee and plan the grid. During the 14-week program, this year’s diverse class of participants gained industry knowledge and skills working with AutoCAD, a computer-aided design (CAD) software that is a typical qualification for entry-level technical roles. Power Up Academy removes the college degree requirement that is typically associated with technical roles in the engineering field, with ComEd and partners creating and hiring Power Up grads into new entry-level positions.
