Town of Cicero Offers Assistance to File Property Tax Appeal

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local News

The Town of Cicero, Office of the Assessor, Emilio “Emo” Cundari, will assist property owners to appeal with the Cook County Board of Review. Staff are able to help complete the appeal paperwork at the assessor’s office, 4949 W. Cermak, now through August 19th. Cook County is the only county in the state of Illinois in which local assessment decisions are made only by the County Assessor rather than the local township assessors. “Cook County’s laws do not give the Town or Township of Cicero the authority to reduce or change anyone’s property assessments, regardless of the factors that caused those increases, or to reduce assessments because of damaging impacts such as flooding,” Town President Larry Dominick said. “The County Assessor is the sole authority which decides what our property assessments are and like everyone, we have all seen our property assessments increase. Property owners can challenge those increases, which in many cases have been dramatic, by submitting their appeals to the Cook County Board of Review, and the Town of Cicero has the resources and staff to help you begin that process.” Property owners can also appeal at home, on-line, by visiting: Appeals.cookcountyboardofreview.com. There is a step-by-step process that must be followed. When your appeal is completed, property owners should receive an email confirmation of your submission. For more information, contact the Assessor’s Office at 708-656-3600, ext. 225, 226 or 228 (habla espanol) or email to ecundari@thetownofcicero.com.
