Sinai Urban Health Institute (SUHI), part of Sinai Chicago, released its 25-Year Impact Report: Advancing Health for All https://suhi.sinaichicago.org/. This milestone publication showcases a quarter century of community-engaged research, training, and innovation to advance health equity in Chicago and across the nation. As SUHI celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2025, the report captures its transformation from a small research team founded in 2000 by the late Dr. Steve Whitman into a nationally recognized public health institute leading change through data-driven insights and community-led solutions. Over the past quarter century, SUHI has worked alongside neighborhoods, hospitals, policymakers, and community organizations to address the root causes of inequities in health outcomes.
Key Highlights from the Report
• Nearly 50,000 individuals served through SUHI-led interventions, including more than 40,000 in cancer navigation and education programs.
• 70–80% reduction in emergency department visits and hospitalizations among participants in CHW-led asthma interventions.
• 6,700+ women connected to breast cancer screenings through SUHI’s Helping Her Live program.
• 900+ Chicago girls surveyed in the Empower Your Voice study, providing critical data to guide youth mental health advocacy, policy, and programming.
