No, no, NO! There is no question that the U.S. government under President Donald Trump is running into all kinds insane, crazy directions that not only make no sense but can get the United States into something that it may not get out of for years. As if the U.S. involvement in the Afghanistan War and Iraq War were not more than bad enough, there is extreme bellicose talk now coming from the White House about taking out the current Venezuelan government of President Nicolas Maduro. We have heard this story before—the invasion and occupation of Iraq, the insurgent war, the frequent battles in one part of Iraq or another by U.S. forces, and a population that eventually became hostile to America as the years passed by. In the end, Iraq is now more aligned with America’s nemesis Iran than it has ever been with the United States. What on earth makes the Trump administration believe that an invasion and occupation of Venezuela will play out any different?
We have to look at Venezuela itself to understand this. The country is the size of both Great Britain and France combined. It has a mountainous and plains interior. It has lush tropical rain forests that go on for hundreds of miles in any direction. All of this is ideal for guerrilla warfare. We have to remember that the U.S. armed forces did poorly in both Vietnam and Afghanistan in regards to guerrilla warfare. Do any of the idiot generals in the Pentagon think we can do any better in a country larger than Vietnam and Iraq? Have we learned nothing from America’s misadventures from Afghanistan and Iraq? Look at the numbers, and they should be sobering. The United States spent $2.1 trillion. We lost 6,591 American war dead. We have 52,010 wounded or badly wounded Americans who may never be productive members of society again. Think of how this has shattered so many families and communities; the consequences we still have to live with today. An estimated 422,000 of our military personnel have been treated for PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). Many of these peoples’ lives have been shattered. Will many of these poor innocents have their lives back?
In the end, it was all for NOTHING. But now we have a demented old man who seems to want to cover himself in glory by being “tough” on Venezuela. Does this include invasion and regime change? This all sounds too familiar. It was not that long ago that we had a real clown in the White House who waged two totally unnecessary wars that have cost this country dearly. I am referring to former U.S. President George W. Bush. His hubris shall be recorded for all of history for the damage he has done to this country. It is incalculable! Bush was certainly “tough” by starting TWO WARS he did not finish when he left office. Are we to see the same thing happen again? It would make more sense to help the Venezuelan people and Venezuela’s neighbors deal with Venezuela than to put American boots on the ground. If Trump expects quick results, it will not happen. Maduro, like all dictators, is in this for the long haul and will make sure he is not gotten rid of so easily. He has a 1.4 million man army. Even if that army is a joke, it can still become a potent guerrilla force in a country as big as Great Britain and France combined. Is this a battleground America wants to be involved in for years? Why do I have this feeling that I will just be sitting by helplessly as yet another dumb-ass president gets us into another unnecessary war?
