Amazon Donates $10K in Books to Reavis Elementary, Celebrating Education Advocate Hannah Hayes

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Education

The library at Reavis Elementary School was filled with stories, laughter, and hope as Amazon, in partnership with Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and the Children First Fund honored the legacy of Hannah Hayes, a beloved education advocate, former CPS employee, and dedicated Reavis Local School Council (LSC) member who was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident in July 2022. Hannah Hayes was widely recognized for her work as both an advocate and a journalist. She played an active role in Chicago politics, contributing to both of former Mayor Harold Washington’s campaigns. As a journalist, her writing appeared in publications including the Chicago Sun-Times, Smithsonian Air & Space, the Journal of the American Medical Association, and the Christian Science Monitor. To celebrate her memory, Amazon donated $10,000 in new books to Reavis Elementary, refreshing its library with diverse, high-quality titles designed to inspire creativity, imagination, and a lifelong love of reading.  The initiative reflects a shared commitment from Amazon, CPS, and the Children First Fund, The Chicago Public Schools Foundation (CFF), to ensure every student has access to enriching, high-quality learning environments, and to honor the community members whose dedication makes that possible.
