With colder weather around the corner, the Chicago Department of Housing (DOH) is opening applications up for the Emergency Heating Repair Program (EHRP) this month. EHRP offers direct assistance to repair or replace homeowners’ furnace or boiler heating system. Qualified contractors perform the work at no cost to the homeowner with funding provided through DOH.  The assistance is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Property owners must reside at the property and be income eligible. The total gross income of all owners and other household members will be included and many do not exceed this limit. Interested homeowners can apply via:

A homeowner who does not have an email address or access to a computer can call 311 to send a paper application package by mail. Completed paper applications can be returned to the Chicago Department of Housing.  In 2024, EHRP completed 157 repairs and replacements for Chicago homeowners.
