With Illinois’ high school graduation rate at 87 percent, but only 64 percent of graduates enrolling in a college program within one year, State Senator Mary Edly-Allen is highlighting the adoption of Senate Resolution 611, which designates March 2026 as Whole Child Month in Illinois, a statewide effort to prioritize student well-being, safety and success both inside and outside the classroom. Senate Resolution 611 encourages parents, educators and communities to adopt a “whole child” approach to education. The framework focuses on ensuring students are:

• Healthy — entering school ready to learn and practicing healthy lifestyles

• Safe — learning in physically and emotionally secure environments

• Engaged — actively participating in learning and connected to their communities

• Supported — guided by caring adults and given access to personalized learning

• Challenged — pushed academically to prepare for careers and global citizenship

The resolution urges schools and communities across Illinois to recognize Whole Child Month by incorporating at least one of these principles into their work with students. Senate Resolution 611 was adopted by the Senate on Thursday.
