State Senator Javier Loera Cervantes announced that several schools in the 1st Senate District will receive investments thanks to the evidence-based funding model, in addition to the base funding that the state provides. Since 2017, the Illinois Senate Democrats have utilized the evidence-based funding formula — an overhaul of the way the state funds K-12 education. By calculating the needs of individual school districts and basing state revenue on those needs, the formula makes school funding more equitable. School districts in Cervantes’ district set to receive funding through the formula include:
• Brookfield School District 95: $888,000
• Riverside School District 96: $32,500
• Cicero School District 99: $985,000
• Berwyn South School District 100: $373,000
• Lyons School District 103: $240,000
• J.S. Morton High School District 201: $5,568,000
• Central Stickney School District 110: $338
• Chicago Public Schools District 299: $76,000,000
