Is Trump’s End Near?

By Daniel Nardini

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - CommentaryThe more photographs and videos I see, the more U.S. President Donald Trump looks weak and frail. He is not only slurring his words, he is barely making any sense in his speeches, and worse he just looks haggard and worn out. I saw the exact same thing with former Soviet premier Leonid Brezhnev just a few years before he died in 1982. Trump seems to be barely standing for whatever reason. It is beginning to look like he will never make it out of his second term. Of course a man his age should probably not be in the highest office of the land. It is both a wrong the Republican Party and many Americans made in the 2024 election. I thought former President Joe Biden was in bad shape, but Trump is looking that much worse. Just as equally bad for the country is Trump’s attitude of not working with officials of the Democratic Party or anyone else. Trump and his people are the ones now in charge, and are the ones keeping the country politically divided.

This is the thing I fear most once Trump is gone. America will remain a divided country and Trump’s successors and minions will keep this country divided. Already we are seeing vicious infighting between them. They simply do not have the charisma that Trump had when he was coherent and could channel Americans’ anger and frustration. But a nation cannot run on anger, frustration or vengeance. A country has to run on cooperation, compromise, and a willingness to work and see what we have in common rather than fight each other over our differences. The way I see it, Trump’s minions are directing this country more and more in Trump’s name. They have cut Trump off from the real world that ordinary American live n, and so Trump really has no idea what reality is. He lives now in a gilded gold cage of his own making.

Trump’s legacy will be one of vindictiveness, division and hate. In many ways we are beginning to see the end of his presidency now. The Democrats do not have to do much beyond hammering home that inflation is bad, the economy is bad, that health care costs are too high, that the overall quality of life has gone down for the average American, and that the Republicans are offering little to nothing in return. The question in my mind is will the Democrats offer better terms for the American people in a post-Trump world? Certainly Trump’s successors will not offer much, so the question will be will the opposition offer something better? Will we see cooperation and unity or much the same as we are having now? In my view, actions speak louder than words, and the momentum is now going to the Democrats and independents. The only real legacy Trump will leave America when he leaves office one way or another will be a dark one.
