The organization Multilingual Chicago and St. Augustine College honored State Senator Iris Y. Martinez for her endeavor and leadership in the introduction and passing of Senate Bill 1221, which resulted in the creation of the Illinois Seal of Biliteracy. Through this law, graduating High School students who are deemed bi-literate will have the “Illinois Seal of Biliteracy” stamped on their diplomas. This will help students show their bilingual and bicultural skills that will help them in the job market and as they continue their education. The award reception was held at St. Augustine College’s Charlie Chaplin Auditorium on Tuesday, April 15th.
