Hot Weather Calls for a ‘Fiesta del Sol’

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local NewsFiesta del Sol is now entering in its 39th year of bringing education, entertainment, food, and fun filled family activities to the residents of Chicago. Keeping true to its motto, “Inspired by the Past, Working Toward the Future”, this four-day festival brings many years of experience, tradition, and energy to the table on July 28th- July 31st. It is the largest Latino festival in the Midwest region and surprisingly with today’s economy it is of no cost those who attend. This free admission event is brought to you by Pilsen Neighbors Community Council (PNCC). This festival helps in developing the community and broadening its educational resources.

For those interested in Aztec culture there will be an “Art and Culture” Pavilion featuring dancing and manual craft workshops for adults and kids alike. Seeking to learn more about the civil rights of the immigrant? There will be a kiosk with information on voter’s registration and various other citizen workshops. High school seniors and juniors, the College Fair will be of particular interests to you and can help in narrowing down or even providing high education options.

Keep a healthy heart and don’t miss a beat with the Live entertainment provided by “House of Sol” featuring DJ & House music with a splash of regional Mexican sounds and Spanish & English rock. There will also be free health screenings thanks to “The Keeping Healthy Campaign”.

Entertainment, check. Cultural and education booths, check. What’s missing? An important staple to the Latino culture: FOOD. Come and enjoy sabrosa comida from over 30 food vendors offering a diverse selection including: Thai, Cajun, Mexican, and Chinese. Cool off with one of those “umbrella” drinks, piña colada anyone?
