Throughout the months of October and November, over 3,000 CPS high and middle school students gave short speeches answering the question: “What is the most pressing issue facing young people today, why is it important, and what should be done to address it?” The students have been participating in the Annual Mikva Challenge Project Soapbox classroom competitions. Project Soapbox, now in its 10th year, is where students address civic leaders, teachers and their peers, and deliver powerful speeches on issues that are most important to them. The winning students from each classroom will participate at the Soapbox final event at Jones Prep College on Nov. 18, 2017. Students from Infinity Math and Science Academy, Benito Juarez Academy, Crane Medical Preparatory High School, and Lakeview High School stood up in their classrooms to deliver passionate speeches.
