National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $80 million in grants as part of the NEA’s second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018.  Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $40,000 to the National Museum of Mexican Art for a special exhibition showcasing the work of exemplary contemporary women textile artists from Mexico and the United States. The National Museum of Mexican Art’s exhibition, curated by Dolores Mercado will feature the work of 5-7 contemporary Mexican and Mexican-American artists who incorporate textiles into their work. These artists use textiles or fiber as a starting point; textiles are integral to the art and are used as part of their social practice, to uncover political issues or strife, and to comment on subjects like border issues, femicide, gender and U.S. immigration. In addition to the exhibition, the Museum will produce a comprehensive set of public programs, educational initiatives, and opportunities for collaboration in the Chicago area. The exhibition will open in October 2019 and continue through March 2020. For more information on projects included in the NEA grant announcement, visit arts.gov/news.
