With the State of Illinois ranking among the top states in regards to women in the state legislature, women legislators in the Illinois House founded the first ever Illinois House Democratic Women’s Caucus, electing state Rep. Deb Conroy, D-Villa Park, as Co-Chair for the new General Assembly. Conroy co-founded the Illinois House Democratic Women’s Caucus (IHDWC) in February 2018 with Rep. Ann Williams, D-Chicago, and Rep. Kelly Burke, D-Oak Lawn. IHDWC’s mission is to promote and elevate women at all areas of state government and to give women a seat at the table. IHDWC will advocate for a responsible budget plan to meet current obligations and further needs. In addition, it will focus on addressing systemic challenges faced by women in public life, including sexual discrimination and harassment. Rep. Conroy was elected by her peers as the Co-Chair of the caucus and will be integral to leading them through the 101st General Assembly. Conroy represents the 46th Representative District, which contains parts of West Suburban Villa Park, Glendale Heights, Lombard, Carol Stream, Elmhurst and nearby communities.
