Sinai Urban Health Institute Announces ‘My Pink Agenda’

Sinai Health System, through Sinai Urban Health Institute (SUHI) is proud to announce a new community outreach initiative which is part of the Helping Her Live/Apoyándola a Vivir (HHL) program. In an effort to connect with women who might have missed other breast health outreach efforts, “My Pink Agenda” will use computer kiosks in Humboldt Park and North Lawndale venues such as grocery stores and laundromats. This kiosk project concept, adapted from similar programs in the mid-west, was found to generate interest and increase mammography use in minority women.

Each kiosk will be placed in local neighborhood businesses for four to six weeks. Women will step up to the kiosk and answer a few questions on their knowledge of breast health. They will also be able to use the attached phone to contact the Helping Her Live hotline and SUHI’s bilingual staff will help callers obtain free or low cost mammogram appointments. Additionally, the kiosk will print out a personalized “magazine” with information on breast cancer and mammography.

SUHI is holding ribbon cutting events for the kiosks on Tuesday, May 17 at two locations. The first ceremony will take place at 10am at Mount Sinai Hospital (southeast corner of Ogden and California) and the second at 2pm in Humboldt Park at Rebaño Compañerismo Cristiano Church, 2435 West Division St.
