Students Take a Shot at ‘Hope’

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - EducationMore than 100 students from Chicago Youth Centers (CYC), Chicago Youth Programs and Casa Central participated in the 15th annual Hoops for Hope program, a two-day basketball skills clinic where a professional basketball coach and Kraft Foods’ employees volunteered to teach and motivate kids on and off the court. Students, aged 9-12 years-old, learned and practiced team-building skills with Chicago Bulls Forward Taj Gibson, who spoke to kids about how he began playing as a kid. Also in attendance was Tanya Crevier, “The World’s Greatest Female Basketball Handler,” who put on a fun ball handling show for the kids and reinforced how important it is to stay in school and enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle. Hoops for Hope developed in 1997 by the Kraft Foods Community Outreach Council, a volunteer employee council.
