SummerOpera: Maria de Buenos Aires

 Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local NewsThe 12th Annual Summer Opera presents three performances of “Maria de Buenos Aires” by Astor Piazzolla and Horacio Ferrer, August 12-14 at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St in Preston Bradley Hall. The 20th-century Tango Operita, “Maria de Buenos Aires,” tells the story of the seductive Maria, played by the astonishing young soprano Catalina Cuervo, who embarks on a journey through life, death and the after-life with the hauntingly beautiful sound of the bandoneon, played by Grammy Award-winner Raul Jaurena. Jaurena, along with the Maria de Buenos Aires Tango Orchestra, will also perform at Chicago SummerDance, Thursday, August 11 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. following a free Argentine Tango lesson by instructors from Tango 21 from 6 to 7 p.m. Discounted parking for “Maria de Buenos Aires” is available for $10 at InterPark Garage, located at 20 E.
