Lawndale Christian Center Unites Community

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local NewsLawndale Christian Fitness Centered hosted the 4th Annual Lawndale 5K Walk/Run event on Saturday, Sept. 17. A bright blue, sunny sky provided the perfect atmosphere for over 800 participants and volunteers during the early morning event. “It was really fun to hear the police cheering this year. That was something new,” says Brian Gannon, fitness center manager and 5K director. “I think overall the event went extremely smoothly and the weather was absolutely perfect. I heard nothing but great things about our volunteers.”

The Lawndale 5K offers something for everyone. Parents walked or jogged with their infants in strollers, a few elderly people were assisted by canes, and even those in wheelchairs were able to participate. New to this year’s event was the community mural painting project. The fitness center commissioned local professional artist, Ellamonique to design a custom mural that will appear on the wall of the new health and wellness center under construction at 3700 W. Ogden between Hamlin and Ridgeway Avenues. The mural, which is scripturally based, was created to serve as motivation to fitness center members and the community to aspire after Christ and a healthy lifestyle.
