Pay Tribute to Loved Ones Affected by HIV/AIDS

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local NewsThe AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) is inviting people across the nation to submit photos and words honoring their loved ones, who have passed from HIV/AIDS. The submissions will be featured in a prominent multimedia presentation — a living tapestry of memories — at World of Chocolate, AFC’s annual fundraiser. The memories will also be incorporated into a permanent fixture on AFC’s website early next year. This year marks the 10th anniversary for World of Chocolate, as well as the 30-year mark from when HIV/AIDS was first recognized by the U.S. Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention.

“In commemoration of 30 years fighting AIDS, we’ve made World of Chocolate extra special this year,” said AFC President/CEO David Ernesto Munar. “World of Chocolate is a rich holiday celebration, but also a time to reflect at year’s end. 2011 gives us a unique opportunity to look back on how far we’ve come, honoring those we’ve lost along the way and realizing the work that still needs to be done.” The deadline for submissions to be featured at World of Chocolate is Nov. 22, but photos and words may be submitted for the permanent installation at www.aidschicago.org after that date. World of Chocolate Gala will be held Thursday, Dec. 1 at Hilton Chicago, 720 S. Michigan Ave. For ticket information, call 312-334-0935.
