Vigils Held for Foreclosure Victims

 Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local NewsInterfaith Leadership Project celebrated Day of the Dead with a vigil and procession to commemorate the thousands of families that have been displaced in Cicero and Berwyn due to the widespread foreclosure problem. In 2010 alone, there were 1,066 foreclosures in Cicero and 791 in Berwyn.

Over 100 residents participated in the vigil in which homeowners gave their testimonies about their foreclosure struggles. State Representative Lisa Hernandez and Cook County Commissioner Jesus Garcia participated and affirmed their commitment to work with ILP to address this problem. There was a candlight procession that passed by the many foreclosed home in the nearby area. A purple bow was left at each home to honor the families that have been displaced.
