Ford and Hispanic College Fund Provide Scholarships to Latino Students in Chicago

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - EducationThe Hispanic College Fund announced the Hispanic students who were selected to receive college scholarships sponsored by Ford Motor Company Fund. These scholarships will not only help them pursue higher education, but will ultimately help them start their careers as successful Hispanic professionals. According to the Pew Hispanic Center, college enrollment among Hispanic students spiked 24 percent from 2009 to 2010, narrowing the gap with other groups. Yet the number of Latinos attending college still lags behind. The scholarship recipients are pursuing careers in projected high-growth fields such as business, information technology, health care, finance and engineering. Out of the chosen students, six are from the Chicago area:

    – Juan Bahamon, studying fine arts at the School of Art Institute of Chicago
    – Maria Cristina Ulloa, studying biology at DePaul University
    – Antonio Moreno, studying accounting at Robert Morris College
    – Alexa Nicole Seda, studying psychology at DePaul University
