Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local NewsOver the weekend, Chicago Cares kicked-off its Celebration of Service to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at various organizations which included Salvation Army, El Valor, and Booth Manor. To help with the celebration, Governor Pat Quinn addressed more than 3,000 volunteers and spoke of Dr. King’s life, legacy, and commitment to community. After the ceremony, buses transported the volunteers to the service sites across the city where they educated young children about diversity and bullying, helped beautify city schools and agencies by paining murals, and prepared and served homemade meals to homeless veterans.
