Ricardo Muñoz’s Plan to Reform the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - BusinessFormer city Inspector General David Hoffman announced his endorsement for Ricardo Munoz in the race for Clerk of the Circuit Court, the only contested countywide election in the Democratic Primary on March 20. Hoffman praised Munoz for his proven commitment to independence in politics and his detailed plans to reform the Court Clerk’s Office.

“Rick Munoz has long been a truly independent voice of reform, especially during a time when it was extremely challenging to be independent,” Hoffman said. Hoffman joins a list of leading reformers who have lined up behind Rick Munoz in his campaign for County Court Clerk, including Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, President Toni Preckwinkle, Commissioner Jesus Garcia, and Alderman Joe Moore.

“I’m honored to have the support of David Hoffman, who has personally done more to eliminate government corruption in Chicago than anyone in the last decade,” said Rick Munoz. Rick Munoz’s plan for reforming the Court Clerk’s Office includes:

  • A ban on all cash gifts from employees to the Clerk.
  • A ban on campaign contributions to the Clerk from office employees.
  • The permanent elimination of the so-called Jeans Day program in which employees were required to pay for permission to wear casual dress.
  • Employees of the Clerk’s Office who receive outside income, such as honorariums for speeches, should be required to say on their annual financial disclosure statement filed with the County Clerk’s Office specifically how much money they received and to fully identify each source of funds.
