Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local NewsCurrently, serving his eighth term in the Illinois House, representing the 2nd District, Edward Acevedo continues on with his commitment to improve his constituents’ living conditions and develop opportunities for them. Among his most notable achievements, Acevedo sponsored the Illinois Dream Act to increase scholarship funding for children of immigrants and has helped make college more affordable for all by creating a $500 Tuition Tax Credit. Acevedo has successfully sponsored the KidCare Health Program, a low-cost health insurance program for children; the Senior Citizen’s Pharmaceutical Assistance Act; and the State Hispanic Employment Plan, which he is now fighting to extend to Asian-Americans to help employ more minority workers in the communities within the 2nd District. Acevedo is running for another term and aims to elevate his community even more if re-elected by securing funding for numerous programs and organizations within the district, including restoring funding for the CTA’s Blue Line to keep it running.
