NLEI Launches Economic Empowerment Program

The National Latino Education Institute (NLEI) launched an Economic Empowerment Program expected to serve as a model for economic recovery for low income Latinos seeking to build credit as a basic foundation for career opportunities and entrepreneurship endeavors. The program consists of a series of workshops/seminars complemented with one on one financial counseling provided via program partners and an Economic Empowerment Specialist. The program includes soft pull of credit score which is utilized to develop a credit building plan, leading to the approval of a secured credit card and ultimately the approval of a non-secured credit card. The goal of the program is to ‘graduate’ close to 60 percent of participants; graduation is defined as program participants that were able to be approved an unsecured credit card at the end of two years.
