Wright College Wrestlers Qualify for National Championships

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - EducationThree freshman wrestlers from Wright College, 4300 N. Narragansett, one of the City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), are back on campus after waging battle at the 2012 National Junior College Athletic Association Wrestling Championships in Rochester, Minnesota. Twin brothers Jameel and Jamal Carter and Angelo Rivera became the first Wright College wrestlers to qualify for the national tournament since 2003. “Although this was my first time competing at the National level, I am grateful for the opportunity and will continue practicing on improving my skills both mentally and physically,” said Rivera. “I learned that I have to take it one match at a time.” The team won a total of three rounds at nationals, not enough to take home the gold, but a strong showing from young competitors, said their Coach Eric Wetzel, assistant director of Athletics and head wrestling coach at Wright College.
