Dairy is a delightful way to get the calcium we need for helping support healthy bones and teeth, but many people don’t realize that it is also a great source of other nutrients, like protein and potassium, to name a few. Milk, yogurt and cheese are all acceptable choices for servings – especially the low fat or fat free options! Kids over the age of 2 as well as adults can drink fat free (skim) and 1% milk – whole milk is best for kids under 2. For more information for best choices in all food groups for the whole family, visit www.mypyramid.gov. Information is available in English and Spanish.

For a fun twist, mix your dairy with fruit for a delicious breakfast, snack, or dessert. Try this smoothie for any of these eating occasions! To serve this smoothie for dessert, offer mini portions in a stemmed glass instead of the bigger meal size portion. Enjoy!
