Chicago Native Takes Home UFC Championship

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local NewsUFC fighter and Chicago native Ricardo “The Bully” Lamas took home the title of featherweight champion on Monday, June 25th in the Ovation Hall in the Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. “It’s unimaginable,” said Lamas of his win.

Lamas came out victorious against Japanese fighter, Hatsu Hioki. The fight had a duration time of 15 minutes and ran its course of three rounds. The Lamas vs. Hioki fight was also considered to be the best of the night.

A crowd of 5,000 spectators cheered as the judges announced the unanimous decision (29-28) in favor Lamas, winning him a place as one of the first UFC featherweight champions. “I fought for ZUFFA for three years and not too many people know me,” said Lamas. “I hope they know who I am now.”
