Señorita Fiesta del Sol Crowns its Winner

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local NewsThe inaugural Señorita Fiesta del Sol pageant opened its doors to contestants and spectators on June 23. The Pilsen Neighbors Community Council along with Fiesta del Sol brought the event to Benito Juarez Community Academy Performing Arts Center.

The audience took a trip down memory lane as the contestants traveled back to the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s through their attire and dance. The Señorita Fiesta del Sol pageant stands out from other pageants because it strives to shine a light on professional intellect rather than physical appearance.

Cynthia Carmin Gongora was crowned the first Señorita Fiesta del Sol. Gongora received a $1,500 scholarship as well as a $3,500 scholarship to beauty school. Gongora also received the honor of representing Señorita Fiesta del Sol and Fiesta del Sol for a year and at the Grammy Salsa Awards in Chicago. Alexandra Castro was the second runner up and Yesenia Hernandez was the first runner up.

All proceeds from the Señorita del Sol pageant were given to the Pilsen Neighbors Community Council.
