Greater Chicago Food Depository Kicks-Off Hunger Action Month

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local NewsThe Greater Chicago Food Depository launched Hunger Action Month in Cook County this week by announcing a number of ways that anyone can help end hunger in their community. Hunger Action Month is a nationwide effort in September that encourages every person to offer what they can – funds, food, time or their voice – to the fight against hunger.

As part of Hunger Action Month, Jewel-Osco stores are partnering with the Food Depository and other food banks throughout the region for their Give a Little, Feed a LotTM campaign, which encourages shoppers to support anti-hunger initiatives with donations of nonperishable food and money. Shoppers have the option to round their grocery bill up to the nearest dollar and donate the difference to area food banks, give cash donations at checkstands and drop purchased nonperishable food items into designated barrels.

Hunger Action Month is an initiative created and led nationally by Feeding America with the participation of more than 200 network food banks across the United States.
