One Million Degrees Announces 2012-2013 Scholars

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - EducationOne Million Degrees (OMD) is thrilled to welcome the 2012-2013 cohort of OMD Signature Scholars. Seventy-five low-income, highly motivated community college students were selected from over 560 applicants to receive financial assistance and student support services as they pursue their degrees.

Alexi Giannoulias, Chairman of the Illinois Community College Board and a One Million Degrees Advisory Board Member stated, “I am proud to be a member of the OMD Advisory Board, an organization that provides supports critical to the success of Illinois community college students.”

OMD will provide these scholars with last-dollar scholarships and stipends for up to three years at a community college, and select students will receive another three years of support at four-year colleges or universities around the state. In addition to financial assistance, scholars will also receive intensive academic supports, one-on-one mentoring and professional development, financial literacy, and life skills development training.
