State Health Department Monitoring Care at Sacred Heart Hospital in Chicago

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - SaludThe Illinois Department of Public Health visited Sacred Heart Hospital in Chicago to asses the hospital’s ability to care for patients after the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General arrested the owner, another hospital executive and four physicians affiliated with the facility. Arrests were made amid allegations of Medicare and Medicaid fraud schemes and medically unnecessary procedures and tests.

“The safe care of Sacred Heart patients and the hospital’s ability to provide nursing and physician staffing is our utmost priority,” said Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck. “Per our normal duties, the Department will be conducting a full inspection of the facility to determine any violations of state or federal regulations.” The Department will continue to work with its federal partners, mainly the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, as well as our sister state agencies; to ensure the health and safety of Sacred Heart Hospital patients is not compromised.
