Greater Chicago Food Depository Fights to End Hunger

 Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local NewsThis past Saturday, thousands of men, women and children walked to end hunger during the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s 28th Annual Hunger Walk, presented by McDonald’s Corporation. The 5K (3.1 miles) walk, at Soldier Field and continued along Chicago’s lakefront, benefited the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s network of more than 400 food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters.

The 28th Annual Hunger Walk was a fun opportunity for businesses, organizations, families and individuals to raise funds and awareness for the fight to end hunger in the community. The 28th Annual Hunger Walk came as the Food Depository’s network is responding to increased need in the community. Data released this month reveals that 860,670 individuals in Cook County are food insecure. Year-to-date, there is a 77 percent increase in food pantry visits compared to the same period five years ago.
