Illinois Latino Caucus held a Healthcare summit, chaired by Senator Martin Sandoval, at St. Anthony Hospital. Topics of discussion included Director of Health & Family Services Julie Hamos’ lack of consideration for the working-poor, HMO, Medicare, Medicaid and budget cuts. The Healthcare summit was held to better inform legislators of the impact budget cuts have on safety net hospitals. “How loudly do the downtrodden and disenfranchised of our communities have to call out Director Hamos to stop elitist policies and listen to the cries of the community?” said Senator Sandoval. “How many hospitals in economically distressed communities have to go bankrupt?” Sandoval asked his counterparts for support to those who need help the most.
