OEMC Issues Public Safety Reminders for Lollapalooza

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local NewsAs preparations begin for the Lollapalooza music festival in Grant Park, the Office of Emergency Management (OEMC) advises attendees and residents of the area to be aware of the large crowds expected for the event and street closures that will impact traffic. As with many other special events that take place in Grant Park, similar street closures will be in effect for Lollapalooza. Some street closures around Grant Park are already in place; however, additional closures should be expected through August 8.

Street Closures -2013 Lollapalooza Set-Up, Festival and Tear Down Street Closure Information:

  • Through Thursday, August 8th at 4:00 p.m.
    Balbo from Columbus to Lake Shore Drive
  • Through Wednesday, August 7th at 4:00 p.m.
    Jackson from Columbus to Lake Shore Drive
  • Wednesday, July 31st at 9:00 a.m. through Monday, August 5th at 4:00 p.m.
    Columbus Drive from Monroe to Roosevelt
    Balbo from Michigan Ave to Columbus
    Congress Parkway from Michigan to Columbus
  • Through Wednesday, August 7th at 4:00 p.m.
    Jackson from Michigan Avenue to Columbus

ADA Paratransit Drop-Off:
The ADA Paratransit drop-off and pick-up for attendees with disabilities will be located at the south curb lane on Monroe.

Weather Shelters: OEMC reminds the public of the visible public blue and white signage installed to direct people to designated extreme weather shelters during severe weather conditions, such as heavy to torrential rain, high wind, lightning, hail storms and tornadoes. There are three primary emergency evacuation shelter sites in the event of severe weather:

1. Grant Park North Garage – enter through vehicle entrance on Michigan Avenue
2. Grant Park South Garage – enter through vehicle entrance on Michigan Avenue
3. East Monroe Street Garage – enter through vehicle entrance on Michigan Avenue
