South Suburban Grassroots Group Celebrates Signing of South Suburban Airport

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - BusinessPastors and community leaders representing various South Suburban communities from the South Suburban Action Conference (SSAC) and Gamaliel of Metro Chicago held a press conference outside the Thompson Center on Monday to recognize and celebrate the work that has been done over the last 26 years to get the South Suburban Airport bill signed, and discussed the next steps moving forward.  Pastor James Hunt of New Hope Community Church and President of the South Suburban Action Conference said, “There’s no single economic engine more powerful than an airport. The South Suburban Airport will generate billions of dollars of revenue for Chicago’s South Side and south suburban communities.  We have watched thousands of jobs disappear to plant closings, budget shortfalls, outsourcing, and changes in technology.  The South Suburban Airport would bring jobs back to these communities.  Through SSAC and GMC’s “100 Ready Workers” Jobs Campaign, we look forward to working together with Governor Quinn’s office, IDOT, and our elected officials to bring jobs to the South Suburban area.”
