Restoring Peace in Little Village

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local NewsCommunity leader Farther Jose Landaverde of Our Lady of Guadalupe in partnership with activist Raul Montes, Jr., held a vigil prayer for peace in Little Village last weekend to bring light to the 285 plus homicides in Chicago. “This is a great way to have families come together to get their mind off of the violence that has taken over our city streets,” said Landaverde. The event also included rock bands and artists who brought their skills to create symbols of peace around the Little Village neighborhood. Activist Montes, Jr., was there to witness the installation of a surveillance camera in the Manuel Perez, Jr. Veterans Plaza, a project Montes, Jr., spearheaded for years with the help of the Chicago Police Department, Cicero Police Department, and Cook County Sheriffs Department, and residents.
